Elections in India.

Our blatant self-aggrandizing continues tonight, when we point you folks to yet another mind-bogglingly insightful post we made on Slashdot. This time the topic’s India’s elections.

  1. Do not get me started on the topic of democracy as it exists today.

I think people should be given voting weights, as a function of social contribution.

After all, shouldn’t those that help the civilisation be given more preference than those that don’t?

Those who ignore history and all that. India with democracy, fractitious, chaotic and noisy as it may be, has always been better than India without democracy.

    I don’t.

Nope. I’m wondering how you’d correlate ‘nation’ with ‘civilization’, and how you would define ‘helping civilisation’.

If you’re going against universal adult franchise, you’re basically turning the clock back on 800 years of political tradition and nurturing.

Agreed. However, that has still been at the expense of minorities.

    I don’t.

    Obviously, we disagree. 🙂

Ah, well change nation to civlisation, I was merely trying to be generic. Quite obviously, there will be clashes.

But here’s the thing — the average bum who lives off dole wants something that will give him more dole, while the average teacher is struggling to make ends meet because her taxes (made from her hard work) is going towards the bum in the street.

In my eyes, the bum should have minimal voting rights because, well, he is a bum.

I don’t see it as turning my back on universal adult franchise, I merely consider it going to the next level.

    Agree.
